New Look, New Logo, New Myspace

Myspace unveiled their redesign today. There were many speculations to how Myspace was going to revamp and compete with Facebook but after seeing the redesign, it’s clear we can stop comparing the two social networking sites. Facebook shares everything with everyone, while the new Myspace is transformed into a entertainment hub, focusing on music, movies, games and celebrities.

Myspace users will not notice a dramatic change, except for their logo and the fact that it’s much more organized. Sharing photos, news and videos is now a one-click process. Myspace learned from the mantra “keep it simple, stupid” and cut down the clutter. In the past, there were 117 logo styles, 152 templates and 81 button styles. Now, there are one logo, seven templates and two buttons. Some of the artists’ band pages used to be so cluttered, they were unnecessary overwhelming. A cleaner interface will allow users to find what they want faster. Another new feature is Myspace now shows artists’ activity all over the web, not just Myspace updates.

Myspace is also introducing an incentive method to encourage users to follow artists. If a Myspace user follows a band, they are “rewarded” if that band gets popular – almost as if they will be the “mayor” of the band, taking a page out of Foursquare.
